Called to lead – equipped to serve

We’re blessed to have three pastors and an Office Manager serving the church community here at CoroUniting. Simon Dent is Minister of the Word with David Buxton responsible for Children & Families and Community Engagement, Emily Byrne for Youth and Sue Laycock our Office Manager. Here’s a bit about them:

Simon Dent

G’day – I’m Simon Dent.

I am the lead pastor here at Coro. I began as Minister of the Word in May 2014 but I have been connected with Coro from the beginning of my walk with Jesus. I heard the good news of the grace and mercy of God for first time at Coro Youth group when I was 20 years old and it is a joy and privilege to be called back to serve the church as their minister under Jesus, the true and living Minister of the church. I was called to ordained ministry after a career as a cameraman in the TV industry in 2006. Coro is my second placement after nearly 9 years in the beautiful Clare Valley. I am married to Carolyn and have three beautiful girls, Jesse, Tilly and Trinity.

My focus at Coro is the preaching and teaching ministry of the church. I have a great hope in the faithfulness of Jesus to bring God’s life-giving Spirit to people who receive the gospel. I have experienced my own joys and struggles in this but testify to God’s eternal goodness. My hope is that through the preaching of the gospel, Jesus builds a church ready to share their hope in service to the community.

David Buxton

Hi – I’m David and I started worshipping here at Coro in 1994. I grew up in England before emigrating to Adelaide to join the rest of my family. I met my beautiful wife, Kate, in 1996 and we were married in 1999. We have been blessed with five fantastic kids – Joshua, Andrew, Hannah, Matthew and Caleb.

I started my working life as a software engineer writing and designing solutions for local government before being called into Children’s & Family ministry in 2007. I have a real passion for seeing children grow in faith and recognise that this is most effective when the church and family work together. My hope and prayer is that as families are transformed by God’s love, the amazing news of Jesus will be spread in ever greater ways through the local community and beyond.

I study (very) part-time at Tabor College, Adelaide. I love good coffee, home & garden maintenance, mucking around with my kids and watching a good episode of QI.

Sue Laycock

Hi, I’m Sue and I’m the office manager. I have been attending CoroUniting for about 4 years with my husband Nick and my daughters, Bethany and Chloe. I really enjoy being part of the CoroUniting family and am so grateful for the friendships I have made, both through coming here on Sundays and through life groups.

When I’m not at work I like to read, bake, catch up with friends for coffee and I just love spending time with my family.

I’m very thankful to be working at such a friendly place and look forward to seeing you in the office sometime!
