“For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own, they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the saints… But just as you excel in everything – in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in your love for us – see that you also excel in this grace of giving.”

(2 Corinthians 8:3-7)

For many of us, talking about our finances is a no-go area, yet as Christians we are called to be wise stewards of all that we have been given and that includes money. The money that is given to the church is used in many ways. It goes to support those who have been called to minister to the congregation as their vocation, it contributes to property upkeep costs and we also give away a significant portion to support many different projects and individuals that operate outside of our own congregation.

One of the privileges of belonging to a church community is the opportunity to share in what Paul calls this “grace of giving”. It’s a great way to feel connected with the practical work of the church and we believe that as we honour God in this key area of our lives, our own needs are met in sometimes quite miraculous ways.
